The settlement of Vardja was founded during the Soviet era in connection with the creation of the republic's most important communications center and military unit. It was a top-secret long-distance call or communication center.
The task of this facility was to be a refuge for the government of the time in case the country was in a dangerous situation. The total size of the complex is 10,000m2, which consists of two separate sections. The older part of the building is located 6 meters underground. The water and air purification equipment section of the communications center is located in a partially separate underground shelter on the forest side of the property, connected to the complex through the service tunnels. The communication center was built in three stages, in the 50s, 60s, and 70s.
