Period-authentic details and refined elegance—these words perfectly capture this family home in Tõnismäe. Creating interior design in this culturally valuable house has been an exciting challenge for the family, blending history and modernity in perfect harmony.
BUILDING
The original project for the house at Toom-Kuninga 12 dates back to 1882, designed by Nikolai Thamm. A new project was completed already in 1899 by architect Konstantin Wilcken, planning an extension towards Toom-Kuninga 10. In 1912, architect Ernst Boustedt designed an extension for the courtyard area. The original design envisioned a symmetrical façade rich in historicist style, characterized by wide corner boards, abundant cornices, and an emphasized staircase structure featuring a dormer window. Unfortunately, the building later suffered significant damage, and renovations from the Soviet era resulted in extensive alterations to both the interior and exterior.
Renovation work on the building began in 2018. As many original details as possible were preserved, and new ones were created based on the originals. Situated on a steep slope, the building now boasts a refreshed, historically sensitive exterior. The building contains only seven apartments in total. A well-functioning apartment association and friendly neighbors are additional bonuses.
APARTMENT
The apartment is spread across two floors. The first floor includes a spacious living room, dining room, open kitchen, balcony, hallway, and bathroom. Bedrooms and another bathroom are located on the second floor.
The entire interior finishing and materials of the apartment have been meticulously chosen. All windowsills are made of marble, and the natural herringbone parquet flooring adds authenticity and warmth. Heating is provided by an apartment-specific gas boiler, allowing for efficient cost control. Additionally, the apartment is equipped with forced ventilation with heat recovery. The living room features a functioning fireplace.
LOCATION
The apartment building is located in the Tõnismäe neighborhood, ideally positioned logistically—only a short walk away from the vibrant city center. Directly across from the building is Tuvi Park, offering leisure opportunities for both adults and children. Within walking distance, there are many of Tallinn's best schools, kindergartens, the Estonia Theatre, Solaris shopping center, the Old Town, and everything else needed for a comfortable everyday life.
